Outfit – Caped VBO

May 10, 2013

It’s weird, I like to think of this blog as a ‘body acceptance’ blog, I’m fat, I like who I am & I don’t have too many body issues. I am me. Yet I still find it hard to embrace the VBO*. I see Rachele rocking hers and I think “damn she looks amazing!”. I’m scared, I’ve been layering my body con dresses, i’m taking baby steps.

I actually debated sharing these photos, but after looking at them a couple of times, and seeing all the amazing ladies who do rock VBO I decided to just go for it. I’ve shown off my belly in a crop top and underwear (here), why can’t Β I do it in a tight dress? I felt good, I think I looked pretty good & if anyone can accept seeing my belly, I’m sure it’s people who read my blog.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who dresses up now and then to try on new outfits? I didn’t go out wearing this, I just wanted to figure out some styling options for my new Galaxy Cape! Yes! I AM IN LOVE! It’s reversabe, one side black, the other an awesome galaxy print. It also has a hood!

I kind of feel like some kind of superhero wearing it! It is so swishy and the motion it makes when you walk. I can just imagine someone wearing it in a movie, they walk in slow motion and it just billows out behind them. Yep. Love.

You look amazing and that cape is a great way to ease into the belly thing. You go !! (And I’m totally on the mailing list for the cape restock, overseas postage be damned!)

  • I know what you mean when you say you find it hard to embrace the VBO! I have not got to the stage where i feel comfortable showing it in body con dresses or other tight fitting clothes! I admire your confidence with your VBO!
Also, I really love that galaxy cape! you are totally rocking it! πŸ˜€

  • That cape is fantastic, love it! It’s funny you should talk about VBO. A couple of days ago I put on an outfit that showed mine – leggings, a long singlet top, and a long over-top that wasn’t as baggy as I’d expected when I bought it. I looked in the mirror and didn’t like what I saw. Most days I love my body but that day I just couldn’t walk out the door like that, so I changed my outfit. I need to learn to love my VBO too!

  • Love you rocking the vbo! You look amazing, sweetie. Also I am so obsessed with galaxy print & hoods, so that cape is perfection to me! I just want to be a superhero. ;P

I think you look fabulous and I’m loving the body harness that you made. I know I have problems with showing my VBO especially since my mom takes my pictures and she always points it out and tells me I need to hide it. So I think its something I need to get over, I always wear things that hide it. But hopefully one day I will be more confident. Oh yeah that cape is awesome! πŸ™‚

  • I love the cape! I think you look amazing. I can’t wait to see you wear it more! The high-low cut and draping is great.

Rocking the VBO takes time and baby steps! All the internalized “stuff” that we’ve been taught comes out when you least expect it, even if you embrace & feel good about your body otherwise. Thanks a lot society!

  • Beautiful Beautiful beautiful. That is one kick ass cape and I love the space print. Awesome.

  • First of all, VBL forever!

I love all things galaxy print. I think you’ll love the galaxy bra I made: http://plumppinup.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/photos-from-the-runway-show-for-my-body-positive-line-of-bras/

  • Sarah

Your cape is a masterpiece! I think you look awesome in the whole outfit.

  • You look awesome! I’m the same with my VBO, but I’m slowly getting over it!

  • Baby steps!

  • Thank you Sarah! xox

  • OH EM GEE, I want them all!

  • I need to wear it to a convention one day! πŸ˜›

  • It really is mostly ‘in my head’ and what we’ve been taught to believe. I think it’s great that blogging and plus size blogging has taken off, it really has helped me push through boundaries I would have probably kept to.

  • Yeah, i’ve walked out in one of my dresses which showed off a bit of VBO and my Mum commented on it. I think my main issue is other peoples issue. I don’t mind it so much, but I do worry about other peoples reactions and comments.

  • Aw, thank you!! I just want to run around the house in it πŸ˜›

  • It’s hard! It really is, I think we just pick up everything thats droned into us through the years and it sticks. It’s hard to break into a new way of thinking. Sometimes I see skinnier girls wearing shorts that leave nothing to the imagination and I think “well, why don’t they seem to get as much flack for showing off so much, when we’d get flack for wearing clothes that show off lumps and bumps”. I’m all for people wearing what they want to, I just hate how so many people discriminate based on weight. /rant.

  • Thank you! I’m getting there, i’ve just fallen in love with so many bodycon things lately and I’ve been layering them, skirts over the top, sheer tunics over the top, etc, I just wish I could show them off in their full glory. But thank you!!

  • The cape is so amazing! I’m glad I had a moment of weakness and bought it! Though beware, I was on the mailing list for restock and never got an email, it just so happened I was online and BM mentioned on facebook that they’d restocked!

  • You look amazing!!! That cape is epic and I love the harness you made.

  • OOH that is an awesome cape! One of those galaxy prints that immediately make you think of Black Milk! Loveeee.

  • Your VBO is cute and that cape is AMAZING!

  • I think the entire outfit is adorable and that harness…I am making one of those ASAP. I wish the thrift store was open RIGHT NOW so I could go get some old chains. Go you w/ the VBO…I am not to that stage yet at all, but I am at least leaps and bounds from the barn-sized dark-colored clothing with no prints or pops of color at all I was 10 years ago.

  • Nessbow

You look so gorgeous. I am a huge fan of that cape. I have a cape that I bought ages ago and I wear it when I need to feel like a superhero. I’m glad I’m not the only one who does that!

  • You look AWESOME! I love the harness/necklace, it makes the outfit look hight fashion.

  • Thank you! I couldn’t find my favourite harness I have made, so I quickly through this one together!

  • Thank you πŸ™‚

  • Heheh, thank you πŸ™‚

  • Thank you! I couldn’t find my favourite harness I made, so this one was quickly thrown together, but I now need to find where I put the few I made. They are super easy to make, but you can do so many things with them! And yes, 8 years ago I was wearing black billowy clothes, it’s hard to break out of it, but i’m glad that more fashion is being made for plus sizes.

  • I have a big velvet cloat that I wear sometimes like a dressing gown!

  • Hee, thank you!! xox
