Quick Pics – The Frodo Edition

Todays outfit post was a failure, due to the sun being in the way. This was the only savable photo. Mr Frodo and I hanging out by the pool. If you’re interested, Shirt – Katies. Leggings – 17 Sundays.

Sleepy. My parents and I went out today to look around suburbs of where they are considering moving too, and I came home with 2 new coats for Frodo. Frodo very much dislikes the cold and whenever it gets chilly, he will sit next to you and SHAKE. He currently has 2 coats, but they are getting a little old. Thing is, Frodo LOVES his coats. He loves the dress up and after putting on a coat he has to run around and show everyone he has one on. He used to have a ‘superdog’ shirt with a cape, that he would drag out from where it was kept. I may have purposely left it in Sydney when we moved to Adelaide :P

Please excuse the somewhat NSFW image, but look at his scar now! It’s all healed up so well! It’s a little bumpy, but I guess they can’t be super precise when it comes to emergency surgery on a dog.

This is my parents dog Emily! She’s come so far since my parents got her as a rescue, she can still be very shy & timid, but her personality is starting to shine through. Here she is in her bed, she has around 5 throughout the house, but this is her favourite.

Shoalhaven Zoo

Being such an animal lover, if there is an animal park, sanctuary or zoo around, I have to go. I’d been looking forward to going to Shoalhaven Zoo (Previously Nowra Wildlife Park) since my Brother took my niece and nephew last year. As we had my other nephew with us away, we decided it’d be a great time to go check it out, and honestly, I’m super happy we did. Caleb had said a few days previously at the Easter Show that he had ‘The Best Day Ever’. I think the time at Shoalhaven Zoo was a close 2nd for him.

When we arrived, the Koala talk was about to start, so we made our way into the exhibit where one of the koalas was just casually strolling around everyone.  It was great to see them so active. Zookeeper Trent, who I have to say is highly amusing, and pretty easy on the eyes, brought around Henry for everyone to smell. Yes, I stuffed my face into the back of a koala and smelt, that’s not something you do everyday. To me, he smelt like horse. He was mighty adorable, and of course, made me a little sad with the name of Henry.

Caleb and I decided to get a photo with Henry together. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a photo with a koala. It seems such a ‘touristy’ thing to do, but then again, I was happy spending up some money to help out the Zoo. The Zoo is a privately run Zoo which doesn’t get any government funding, so every little bit counts!

Of course, my favourite part was the reptile talk. I still don’t think it’s convinced my parents to let me have my own. It’s been a dream of mine for the past 10-15 years to own a python (I’d love a Stimsons Python, kthanx!)

This is John. As salt water crocodile. Best thing that was told to us was, not to think of them as ‘cold blooded’ but as ‘solar powered’.

The croc talk was really informative, plus great to watch. Seeing them up so close is pretty amazing, they are huge! Oh, and they don’t like to bite/eat everything. John was quite addiment he was not going to bite down on the stick, no matter how annoying it was.

SBigdfiwegdriuwyhedu! Why yes, I do think they are ALL KINDS OF ADORABLE!

Caleb and I had some more photos done. The park offers photos for $10 each, or 4 for $30. That’s per photo, not per person. I love that in the photo on the right, of me holding the wombat, that Caleb is totally photobombing me!

I’m so tempted to edit the photo on the right to have a caption that reads “I went to Shoalhaven Zoo and all I got was to choke a dingo”.

Mum wasn’t feeling the best that day, and my leg ended up hurting after awhile, so we didn’t make it around the whole park. We missed out on one of my other top 5 animals, the Llama, as well as seeing the Camels and Water Buffalo. The place was amazing though, with a HUGE slide, picnic areas and adventure walks, right in the middle of the bush, next to the Shoalhaven river. Pretty much, my idea of paradise.

Frodo’s home!

My Mister Baggins is home! We had a call early Sunday morning saying that if it was okay, he could come home. It seems he was feeling well enough that his anxiety had kicked in and the vet believed he’d probably recover a little better if he was home. When we got to the vet and were waiting to get him, the sounds he was making, oh it broke my heart. He was howling and wailing. As soon as we put his lead on him however, he calmed down.

I nearly lost him, and I can’t put into words how much that scares me. We were lucky we got him in when we did. Apparently the blood supply had started to be cut off and his insides were turning purple, if we hadn’t taken him in, his inside tissue would have died and eventually him. But the important thing is, he’s home now, he’s safe, and he won’t be having any more bones!

He’s just been sleeping, and i’ve been having to carry him everywhere. If I move more then 3ft away, he starts to cry. He’s got special food to eat, which, he’s tolerating and he successfully pooped last night. Never thought i’d be so happy about that! He has to go back on the 10th to have the stitches removed.

I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has kept him in their thoughts, who have sent their well wishes, who have comment and donated money.  It means so much to me. The final bill came to $2970. Thankfully, my parents were able to pay, but I plan on paying them back as much as I possibly can.

Poor Mr Frodo

As I type this, my little man is at the vets. First off, I’d like to say, I know that you’re not supposed to give dogs cooked bones, and I usually don’t give them to Frodo, but my Mum often gives them to her dog, and I often feel sorry for Frodo, so I let him have one on Friday night. Well, yes, that was a big mistake. Around midnight, he threw up, and I could tell he wasn’t feeling the best, he was sooky-er then normal. He couldn’t get comfortable. I ended up waking my Mum up at 3am, and she said, wait and see how he is in the morning. I didn’t sleep, I just kept him company, held him when he wanted to cuddle and cleaned up after he vomited. It wasn’t until about 7:30am, when he got up to go outside, that I freaked out a little more. By the time I followed him outside, he was sitting at the back of the garden, hiding amoung the plants. Que me freaking out and waking up my parents to say basically, we are going to an emergency vet NOW.

We got to the vet, and it was what I had suspected, he had a bone fragment caught somewhere in his stomach. He was rushed in for emergency surgery straight away. It all went well, the bone fragment was retrieved, it had made his intestines swell up nearly double in size and fill with gas. I went and visited him today, he’s a lot happier, still in pain, but it seemed more of a “I just had surgery” kind of pain. Hopefully, if all goes well, he can come home tomorrow or the next day.

I love Frodo more then words, I look at him and it’s like my heart swells. I honestly believe that what I feel for him, is what a parent feels for their child. He has been my rock through so many emotional times, and he is my best friend. I honestly don’t know how I’d cope without him. Thankfully, apart from this mishap and a couple of minor issues, he’s a very healthy little man of 9. He turns 10 on July 17th!

Thank you for all the twitter/facebook love. It’s been much appreciated. I’m so thankful to have my parents support in this too, as the operation will cost about $2000. I have some money saved for things like this, but not THAT much. Needless to say, i’m glad I decided not to go to New York FFFW! I’ll be sure to keep you updated.
