Outfit and Event – Supanova Melbourne

Last Sunday, I headed out to Supanova. For those who have been looong time readers, you’ll know I used to work in the convention industry. My last con was 6 years ago, so it’s been an age since I’ve been to one. Boy have they grown! I was quite stunned at just how huge it’s grown.

Having put a poll on Twitter asking which of two outfits I should wear, and the clear winner was an Ursula/Disney Villians themed outfit. I think it turned out pretty well and I was super comfy. Seeing as I was working on three hours of sleep comfort was a big thing.

Supanova - Welcome to the Wolfpack Panel - Keri Arthur, Patricia Briggs and Maria Lewis

One of the main reasons I headed to Supanova was the Authors! Three of my favourite authors were there and on Sunday they had a panel I really wanted to see. “Welcome to the Wolfpack” was a panel featuring Keri Arthur, Patricia Briggs and Maria Lewis all about their take on Werewolves. The panel was packed with feminism, history and lots of laughs.

Lack of sleep meant eyebags larger than normal. That problem was solved by going all out with glitter! Yep, I was up at 6:30am to do my hair and makeup. I played around with a wrap necklace to create a harness type effect and use that to pin my Ursula brooch on.

My hair has some major regrowth going on and is in desperate need of a dye, so I decided to wear a wig. I braided my hair into the front and covered it with my trusty flower headband. It apparently seemed real enough I had a lady ask what dye I used!

All these photos were taken in the afternoon. I forgot to put setting spray on my make up but luckily it stayed put brilliantly. If I can say so myself! I had a brilliant day and picked up heaps of fun things I can’t wait to share in upcoming posts.

Have you been to a convention before?

My Ultimate Birthday Wishlist!

Today marks ONE MONTH til my birthday. Yep, after much discussing with my Mum, then my Dad, a couple of friends, a calculator, I managed to work out I was turning 27! Please tell me I’m not the ONLY one who forgets how old they are!? So here is my crazy epic wishlist full of things I can’t afford. Tis a dreamlist!birthdayyy

  • THE ULTIMATE BIRTHDAY PACKAGE!! Return tickets to my spiritual homeland, aka New Zealand, to attend the Armageddon Expo with the “You shall not pass” Hobbit tickets. Accommodation for a week. Visits to Weta and some Lord of the Rings tours. Also getting to meet Ezmae! (Optional extras I would not say NO to would include a night with Richard Armitage or Dean O’Gorman).
  • Zana Bayne Leather | ZB stuff  has appeared on my wishlist a few times. I’ve been following Zana online for years and it’s been amazing seeing her get all the success she deserves. Her items are amazing! My top two wishlist items are the CC-Harness – $115 & the Gemini Harness – $210.
  • Noir Sunglasses by Miu Miu | I’d love these is the red, pink, blue or silver glitter. I’ve wanted these glasses forever, so much so, that when you google Miu Miu Noir glasses, or sunglasses, my blogs on the first page, and in the images. I NEED THEM!
  • Giant Dinosaur necklace by Tatty Devine – £135.00 | An item i’ve wanted for what seems like forever. Sadly, the AU$ is crazy. It’s better then it has been, but it still makes the necklace $205au. But isn’t it AMAZING!?
  • Pentagram Ring by Pamela Love – $161 | I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this ring. I don’t mind it in the bronze either, which is $92, oh and course the $1610 diamond version is beautiful!
  •  Buckle up boot by TS14+ – $269.95 | In red! LOVE these! I have one pair of tall boots for winter, oh two if you include a pair that need to re-soled. But the red in these are just fantastic! I’m enjoying wearing red now that I’m no longer pink-haired!
  • Benefit Cosmetics – I love Benefit Cosmetics, I only have 2 full products, but I’ve used a few of their samples, but I love them. A couple of my most wanted products are The porefessional, Watts up, Fake Up & It’s Potent.
  • City Chic Voucher – I’m really liking a few of the items up at CC at the moment. My favourites being THIS one and THIS one. (Oh, and I also wouldn’t say no to ASOS vouchers!)
  • Mouse Ballerina Flats by Marc by Marc Jacobs – $248 | Urgh, seriously, how ridiculously cute are these shoes! I think I may be a bit scared to wear shoes worth this much money though, but hey, at least they are flats, so they would get worn more often!

I also have 2 wishlist boards up on my pinterest, which I update regularly with all my wishy wanty goodness. So make sure you check out my Fashion wishlist & Non fashion wishlist.

I never expect presents, but I do like cards. I grew up being taught to appreciate cards, so cards mean the world to me. I’m pretty easy to buy for though, I love everything. Anything that glitters. Stickers. Shoes. Stationary. Candles. Owls. Fandom (Lord of the Rings, Labyrinth, Doctor Who, to name a few). Jewellery, I’m a silver wearer, but i’ve started wearing gold & I love natural gemstones. Make up. Clothes.

Dreaming of The Hobbit premiere.

I’m sitting here WISHING I could win the lottery, or some amazing competition, that would send me to Wellington for the World Premiere of The Hobbit. You see, I am a huge Tolkien fan. HUGE. I have the world of Middle Earth to thank for my introduction to fandom, and to Conventions.

I started reading The Hobbit in Year 5, yes, when I was around 11. It was in class, and we would read the chapters and have tasks, I remember having to draw our interpretation of the Dwarves walking up the Lonely Mountain. It wouldn’t be until a few years later, when I sat in a movie cinema to watch this movie called ‘Lord of the Rings” that I’d remember the story, and fall head over heels in love with Tolkiens Middle Earth.

I’m not sure what draws me to the story, but to say I became obsessed is a bit of an understatement  I have an estimated $3000 worth of Lord or the Rings memorabilia mint in boxes. I’ve been trying so hard to control myself from not buying every Hobbit themed item I see. LEGO! FIGURINES! Just look at the WETA store!

Not forgetting, the love of my life, my little man beast Mr Frodo Dobby Baggins. My 10 year old dog. Yes, when I got him, he was this teeny little puppy who could fit in the palm of my hand. His feet looked too large for him, and he was hairy. Frodo just seemed the right name for him.

I’ve travelled to Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane to attend Conventions that LoTR cast have attended. Years ago my dream was to meet all 9 members of ‘The Fellowship’ (It’s still on my bucket list).

New Zealand, Wellington in particular, have gone to extreme with promoting this movie. A huge 12 meter long Gollum statue can be seen at Wellington Airport and the NZ Post building boasts silhouettes of the 13 Dwarves and Bilbo. To me, this is THE PERFECT time to visit New Zealand. Not to mention, Air New Zealand are releasing a Hobbit themed Safety video!

Don’t forget to read ‘A love letter to New Zealand.’ I’m off to buy some lottery tickets and pick some 4 leaf clovers!

Have you visited New Zealand? Have you seen any of the filming locations?
