It’s been a while since I’ve done an “in the dressing room” post. I’ve been in a bit of a fashion rut again and am unsure about my style. I go through these periods now and then where I question what I actually like, and what I feel is pushed upon me by designers/stores/advertising/what fat women should or shouldn’t wear etc.
This is something that pushes me a little out of my comfort zone of what I normally wear, but OH MY GOSH, it was so comfortable, it felt like I was wearing pyjamas. First up, this top. THIS TOP. It is made out of the softest most beautiful material, it’s a little clingy, but I didn’t want to take it off. The back has a dip hem in a different material, but it was the front that I loved. I tried it on in a 20, and as you can see, it’s a super relaxed fit. The pants are a 20 as well, they have a fitted waist at the front but elastic at the front, which meant I could easily wear them high or on my hips. I’d have to have them taken up either way. I loved the speckled dot pattern and the roomy palazzo legs.
Swing Tee – $29.95 – Also in pink. Tried on in a size 20.
Palazzo Printed Pant – $49.95 – Tried on in a size 20.
This dress is something a little different for me too, mainly the colouring. Sure, back in the day, all I ever wore was black and red, but these days, I don’t have much red in my wardrobe. The neck is what drew me to this dress, and whilst it is available in a solid black, I really did love the rose pattern. I also just loved the cut of the dress, the fake small tulip of the skirt/hem. This is the dress in a size 20, and it fit well. If you have bigger boobs, this would fit you better. I found it was a little gape-y under the arms and I probably could have got away with a size smaller.
Cut out shift dress – $49.95 – Also in plain black. Tried on in a size 20
What is your favourite thing I tried on?
This outfit is something different for me. These are colours that I don’t usually wear. Sure, I have my lemon print dress and I do love yellow, but generally I shy away from a lot of yellow/orange/greens/browns. I really love how this outfit turned out though. I wore it out to dinner and was super comfortable the whole evening.
Nyata are amazing. I’ve been lucky to see their designs numerous times, but sadly, I don’t often have the money to be able to purchase them. Something I wish I could do more is supporting smaller Australian businesses. Nyata is Australian owned but manufactured in Indonesia. They offer smaller runs on their collections so they are all limited edition.
I picked these pants up in a sale after Christmas, the few items I had my eyes on had sold out in my size and I’m always looking for new interesting pants, so I thought I’d give these a try. Finding pants I like can be hard, being an apple shape means pants often look awkward on me, but I’ve found looser harem type pants help. I picked these up in size ‘Gorgeous’ which is a 20-22. They fit great, though are a little long, but that is something easily fixed.
I wasn’t sure if I’d have anything to wear them with, apart from a black top, but then I remembered I picked up this top (it matches my dress) and I really love the whole citrus look of the outfit. I wish I still had my red hair to wear this with!

Oh, and I couldn’t help but do a cheeky internet VS real life photo. Haha. One of the good things about wearing a moonboot is that I can take it off for photos.
What is a colour you don’t often wear?
If you follow me on social media, you may remember me going on about this dress aaaages ago. I found it online at Crossroads and just loved the print. I love a good lemon tree/ orange tree/ palm leaf print. By the time I finally left the house to go into a store to try it on, I was worried there wouldn’t be any left. I was lucky and they had the dress in my size, as well as a top in the matching print, so I put them on layby!
That was over a month ago, in fact, that was last year! I finally got the layby out last week and wore the dress out yesterday when I went and saw Moana at the movies. Oh, you should totally go and see Moana, it was amazing and made me want to head back to Aitutaki.
I’m also trying to be more comfortable showing off my arms. I admit, my upper arms are an area I’m still quite insecure about. I will often throw on a light cardigan or that but not anymore. No one gave me a second look though, no one but me cared about my arms. Sometimes I think you can be your own worst enemy. So here is to me, rocking my flabby arms in public more!
Do you love a good fruit print? Any in particular?
