Where to eat in Ballarat – Meigas – The best Tapas I’ve ever had!

When my BFF and I found out that Ballarat was hosting it’s own White Night (more on that later), we decided to head out country for the night and experience what Ballarat had to offer. We booked an Air BnB and asked the host where they would recommend to eat. We decided on Meigas, a Spanish Resturant with some outstanding looking Tapas.

Meigas Ballarat

We chose the ‘Feed Me’ option, which basically meant they would keep bringing out plates until you told them to stop. I didn’t take pictures of all the dishes, these are only a handful of, gees, around 13 or 14. We got to a point where we were SO full, we had to stop them bringing dishes & had the last one, which was dessert.

When you order, they ask if there is anything we wouldn’t eat or dietary requirements. We said we’d try anything, and that I couldn’t eat nuts, which thankfully was only in one dish. They were really good about that, which I loved.

Meigas Ballarat

I don’t know what all of the dishes were called, but we had a mixed meats/cheese board, calamari with the softest most amazing batter. Chorizo, mushrooms in garlic, prawns, and the crazy padron peppers. Pork, spicy potato chunks, and what I think was beef cheeks in the most delicious mash. I know i’ve missed a couple of dished from that list too. Dessert was Churros with chocolate sauce, alongside peaches and ice cream.

Meigas Ballarat

To be honest, i’m already trying to figure out when I can plan to visit Ballarat next, just to visit Meigas again! I also tried Sangria for the first time and quite enjoyed it! Now, the thing that got me, was the price. The feed me option is $50pp, which is SO cheap for everything we were served. All up, including a jug for 2 of sangria, and a coke, it was $120 (then we threw on a tip).

I was impressed with the service, we booked way in advance, as we figured that it would book up due to White Night. I was a little concerned we might get rushed for the table, but the meals came out pretty steadily and we weren’t pressured to move. We did actually turn up over half an hour early, and they still managed to accommodate us. Oh, and all the staff were gorgeous and so very friendly. I kind of just wanted to befriend them all.

Melbourne Birthday Lunch at Naked for Satan #natatreeturns30

Yesterday I celebrated my 30th birthday early with a scrumptious lunch at Naked for Satan. When I originally decided to do something for my birthday, I was tossing up between lunch, dinner or drinks. In the end, I went with what suited me as a homebody who doesn’t really drink and settled with a Sunday lunch at a place with good food and drinks.

Naked for Satan - EmpanadasEMPANADAS

I’d been to Naked for Satan twice before, once for dinner at Naked in the Sky (which is where we had lunch) & for lunch downstairs with their pintxos. Both were delicious previously and I wasn’t let down with yesterdays offerings!

Naked for Satan - GildasGILDAS -WHITE ANCHOVY, OLIVES & PICKLED GREEN PEPPERS

This place isn’t the cheapest, but it’s certainly worth the money. We had 8 dishes, shared between two people, plus drinks for just under $180. Let me tell you, I had to come home and have a bit of a lay down because I was SO FULL. I’m talking twin food babies.

Naked for Satan Beef TartareBEEF TARTARE w ANCHOVY, SHALLOTS, QUAIL YOLK & TARO CRISPS

I’m all trying new food & I tend to say I’ll try most things once. The beef tartare was… interesting! It’s essentially raw beef. I wasn’t a huge fan but I think it was mind over matter. I didn’t hate it, but it’s not something I’d go out of my way to eat again. At least I can say I tried it!

Naked for Satan Prawn SkewersGRILLED PRAWN SKEWERS w BACON & RED SALSA

I’ve only recently gotten into eating more prawns. I have a slight allergy to (crustacean) shellfish, but I’ve been building up a bit of a tolerance & find if I don’t have to touch the shell I’m good!

Not shown was the half dozen Oysters that I ate before getting pictures because oysters are my favourite food ever, and the Charcuterie Board. The drink you can see me proudly showing at the top of the post was called ‘I’m all over the Pavlova’ and was Passionfruit Vodka, Butter Vodka, Vanilla Galliano, Sugar, Egg White, Lemon and Passionfruit Pulp. It was delicious!

Naked for SatanI didn’t get naked, but the recommendation amused me!

Top 3 places to eat in Hobart.

tasmania-06503 – Jack Greene

We didn’t actually eat a main meal, because we were so full on all the other food we’d been eating, but golly the mains looked good! We had the polenta crusted duck & wasabi cheddar arancini balls with a spiced plum dipping sauce and Tempura Huon valley mushrooms with plum & ginger dipping sauce. Seriously, the best mushrooms i’ve had in ages. It was quite crowded but had a great vibe. We sat upstairs in front of a live fire with a masculine woodland library feel.

chinesefood02 – AWU Delicious Chinese

I popped in here on the Sunday I arrived and picked up a mixed Entree. I’d never had Duck Puffs before, but they are delicious! We ordered again to eat in room, and wasn’t disappointed. I am really fussy with my chinese food, and this went straight into #2 of my fave Chinese food EVER. The duck sang choy bao & lemon chicken were yummy! While we didn’t eat in store, the resturant was beautiful and smelt delicious.

mures00101 – Mures – Upper Deck

While the lower deck was great (hello Oyster Bar!), the upper deck was an experience to remember! Easily one of my top 3 dining expreiences EVER. This was fine dining!

  • Oysters – Vodka & Lime, Mures smoked ocean Trout & Caviar, Wakake, Kilpatrick.
  • Morton bay bugs, wrapped in honey bacon, Asian garlic salad, garlic, chilli & lime butter.
  • Grilled sardines, toasted bruschetta, tomato, basil & green olive salsa.
  • The main was a Salmon special, wrapped in prosciutto, with a mushroom risotto.
  •  Tasmanian poached pear.

Their house cider was amazing! It was like fireworks going off in my mouth! It’s a bit on the pricey side, but SO worth it! So so so worth it!
