In this day and age, hackers are finding increasingly more elaborate methods to get hold of your data. Although hacking into the systems of large firms tends to give much more lucrative rewards; these businesses tend to have extremely secure servers, making it difficult or impossible for hackers. On top of this, large companies tend to be determined to pursue these criminals, putting many of them off. These factors are perhaps the main reasons that cybercriminals attack small to medium-sized businesses more than their larger counterparts. While many small businesses think that they are protected from attack due to their small size, this is certainly not the case. From educating your staff to installing cybersecurity systems, there is a range of ways to ensure a safer IT network for your business. Here are some of the most important:

    1. Make sure that access to your computers and system is secure

Although it may seem obvious, this is a key point that business owners tend to forget. Make sure that only trusted employees can get access to your computers, with no unauthorised visitors. Also, ensure that easy-to-grab devices are installed with tracking software.

    1. Hire an IT support company

IT companies are well-versed in cybersecurity matters, and they will be able to analyse your company’s individual needs to best address your IT needs. Be sure to check out IT Support companies such as Netzen Solutions if you’re interested in hiring an external company. Not only can these companies help you with encryption and other cybersecurity matters, but they can also advise you on the technology you should be using.

    1. Educate your employees on cybersecurity

Phishing scams can be extremely common in some areas of the internet. If one of your employees unknowingly fills out a form on what looks like a trustworthy website but isn’t, then it can put your business’ cybersecurity at jeopardy. As a result, it is extremely important to make sure that your employees know how to avoid such scams; if they don’t know, then teach them.

    1. Ensure you’ve got a firewall set up

A firewall is one of the greatest protection measures one can take in order to protect your internal systems from an external threat. Make sure they’re installed on not only the servers but also all devices that are related to your network, including mobile phones. Also, always ensure that you’ve got up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware software downloaded.

    1. WiFi passwords

Make sure your wireless networks are always secured with strong passwords. Some companies have “guest” networks. While this can be great for your actual guests and clients, it can be a good idea to intermittently change the password. This is because mobile devices may save each password indefinitely, regardless of whether they are still a guest or not.

    1. Update your software

Cybersecurity software is constantly being analysed by hackers. Make sure you are always updated to ensure that you’re protected from the most current threats.
